About Sarah

Sarah Heenan is the artistic director of Drifting Haze and specialises in Shakespeare adaptations, immersive and site-specific theatre.

She is co-writer of the acclaimed War of the Waleses. Her largest scale work was creating, designing and co-directing Such Stuff As Dreams Are Made On, the first immersive production with an audience completely free to choose their path ever produced by an amateur company (winning NODA’s 2017 Innovation Award).

Sarah has performed with Southwark Mysteries in their 2010 production at Southwark Cathedral, R_FT in their 2014 productions of Macbeth at The Balfron Tower and Shakespeare in Shoreditch and is a renowned Margaret Thatcher impersonator. A trained improviser, she was a founding member of The Nursery Theatre’s first house team. Through 2017 and 2018 she was involved in development workshops and the première London performances of Complicité’s everything that rises must dance.

2018 saw the launch of a year long immersive experience, The Wild Wood and Water, played out in London’s wild and secret spaces.

2024 she directed Don Giovanni for Regents Opera touring England, Wales and France.

In 2025 the company begins a three show sequence of immersive shows set in The Café Orphée beginning with a haunting retelling of Pushkin’s The Queen of Spades.

Since 2021 she has been Executive Producer of the 2022-2025 Regents Opera Ring Cycle staged in the Grand Temple of Freemasons Hall and York Hall Bethnal Green. She became Chair of Regents Opera Ltd in 2022 and is a trustee of Fast Familiar.
