Originally conceived as a small scale professional multi-media project with audiences of 30 people, Sarah Heenan’s immersive Tempest project was adapted into a full length, free flow, non linear immersive theatre piece, renamed as Such Stuff As Dreams Are Made On. Sedos, the City of London’s premier amateur dramatic society agreed to place the project in its 2016 season as part of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. A cast of 17 amateur actors was found from all walks of life and a 15,000 sq ft office space in East India was obtained and developed into The Island – over 15 specially designed rooms and corridors including a forest, a cave made out of bottles, a seafarer’s bar complete with doors made from hoisted sails, an Algerian courtyard and witch’s workshop, Prospero’s cell, laboratory, kitchen and wardrobe, Shakespeare’s London home near Blackfriars theatre and a sandy sea shore where the action of Such Stuff takes place. The show blended live action with a pre-recorded radio version of The Tempest (adapted and produced by Sarah Heenan) which could be heard during the scenes which matched the action of Shakespeare’s original play.

Such Stuff enjoyed a sold out run of capacity audiences totalling almost 1500 over the course of 12 performances, some audience members returning 6 times to see as much of the 8 hours of unique action.

Sarah also curated and designed the multiple soundtracks heard throughout the performance areas.
